“Water is the essential component of all life. It comprises 70% of the Earth’s surface, 75% of the human body and 90% of blood. 97% of Earth’s water is in the oceans, 2% is frozen in icecaps, 1% is fresh, but much of this is inaccessible, deep in the Earth. From what is left, we use 98% for industrial purposes and agriculture, only 2% for nutrition and health of every living organism.” What about in our bodies? 1

An estimated 60% of total bodyweight is water. Water helps to maintain body temperature and allows for over 50% of all chemical reactions occurring in the body. It is also responsible for the movement of nutrients, digestion, absorption processes, circulation and the excretion of wastes. Water is even partly responsible for the transmission of light and sound in the eyes and ears. Needless to say, water is essential for this planet and for us as human beings!Water Essentials

It is one of the things we absolutely need to survive. We can survive without food for up to 3-5 weeks. But you won’t make it past a week without replenishing your H2O! The body’s average daily loss of fluids through excretion, respiration, chemical reactions and perspiration varies from 1-3 quarts. In any case, when the body is deprived of fluids it will pull water from any or all reserves in an effort to maintain critical blood volume and a safe body temperature.

When you know you’ll be doing an intense workout, weigh yourself prior to and after your workout. Then ingest 16 ounces of water per pound of weight lost. This should adequately replenish the lost water. Be certain your clients are drinking enough water before and after workouts so they can get the best results and feel the best. Be safe in these warmer months and keep up the great work!
