When it comes to training clientele, changing the scenery every now and again tends to shake things up in a good way for myself and my clients. The usual indoor setting is great as there’s no worry about the impending weather conditions and the fitness equipment.
However, my clients find it both fun and refreshing to workout in different locales, keeping them “on their toes” but also streamlining their results. Here are ways you and other fitness professionals can keep your clients improving as well with a bit of scenery change.
Include Bodyweight Exercises
The gym setting has its many perks, most notably the availability of gym equipment. However, training outside has different benefits. As Fitness Professionals it is our duty to deliver to our clients not just amazing results but a great experience.
I find that training at a park allows my clients more “room to breathe” and experience a connection with nature. At a park that I frequent, there are several open areas where bodyweight exercises can be performed, such as, lunges, squats, and pushups, plus workout benches and pull-up bars.
You can provide workout mats or have clients bring their own. I find this invigorates my training sessions as the focus then shifts from lifting a set amount of weight to totally relying on my clients’ ability to handle and maneuver their own volume and at different tempos. Being versatile and making use of limited equipment shows clients that you are knowledgable of different training methods and various avenues to arrive at the same goal.
Increase Cardiovascular Training
For many, running or any form of cardio for that matter, is a dreaded activity. Unless you train your client several times a week or he performs aerobic activity on his own time, becoming conditioned requires high frequency and consistency. Therefore, doing weekly-only cardio spurts will undoubtedly be uncomfortable.
Despite this, cardiovascular exercise plays a role in weight-loss. Running has been proven to be one of the greatest body exercises, not only does it not require and equipment with the exception of proper running shoes and attire, but the only resistance you’re responsible for is your own body weight! Make use of outdoor spaces and trails by making your clients run, skip, side shuffle, sprint or even bear crawl to get their heart rate up. Have fun with it and so will they!
