What’s in a name? Names serve as identifiers in separating people and things from one another. As a personal trainer, you can hone in on a particular area of fitness that you are exceptionally adept in. Along with this, developing marketing strategies and remaining consistent within your practice will help to further cement your brand. Let’s take a look at effective ways in which we as trainers can grow and cultivate our brands.
Find Areas of Specialization
There are different avenues of fitness and exercise and these require different skills sets. You can then market these distinct skills when promoting your services. For instance, as a trainer, you may like to run a lot, or perform complex jumping moves, or even lift a ridiculous amount of weight. Here are a few examples of how your area of expertise can lend itself to a specialized area of focus; if you are a:
Cardio Expert: you can specialize in cardiovascular training.
Jumping Pro: you can specialize in plyometric training.
Weight Lifter: you can specialize in strength and resistance training
These are just a few examples of how you can transfer a skill you excel at to a more defined area of concentration to boot your services. Let’s look at some kick-butt marketing strategies.
Develop Marketing Strategies
There’s just something about “the business card” that legitimizes a person or business. It says to your clients and consumers that you mean business and take both yourself and your practices seriously. On your card you can put pertinent information you deem important: such telephone number, email, social media links, and your area of specialization.
To give you a better example I will use my personal brand/persona: Hercules (Herc for short).
The character “Hercules” is known for having unparalleled strength and abilities; making him adaptable to whatever challenge put before him. This makes him not only strong but versatile as well. My brand presence emphasizes my strength of being “Hercules” and versatility by being both a personal trainer and model.
To further illustrate how my branding portrays me as a respectable personal trainer and model, my social media posts showcase my clients pushing through my complex, grueling regimens as well as high-quality images of myself modeling. As a trainer, you must remain consistent in pushing your brand to the masses.
Consistency
When trying to master or improve your skills in anything in life, consistency is vital. With branding, it is very important to remain consistent whether it’s handing out a certain amount of business card on a weekly basis or the frequency at which you posts exercise and fitness related content on your social media; consistency builds brand awareness.
For example, a potential client will most likely choose Trainer “A” that post regular workout videos and inspirational quotes over Trainer “B” who does so once in a blue moon. Consistency adds to our credibility in the eyes of prospective clients as it showcases knowledge, enthusiasm and poise amongst other notable traits you need as an aspiring trainer.
As you can see, branding is an effective tool to garner a larger following. As a personal trainer, you can utilize this tool to stand apart from other trainers. What steps will you take in branding effectively?
