HAND SANITIZERS (AND THEIR USERS) DON'T ALWAYS DO WHAT'S NEEDED

Swine flu fears have people everywhere doing anything and everything to avoid the potentially serious ailment. From face masks to disinfectant wipes there are all sorts of preventatives in use as people try and dodge this latest bad news bug. One of the most popular continues to be the use of readily available disinfectant hand sanitizers. However not everyone uses these products correctly, and not all products do enough to kill the germs that cause illnesses such as the H1N1 swine flu.

Can Exercise Reduce Symptoms of Parkinson's?

The new Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at Barrow Neurological Institute announced it will participate in an upcoming study targeting the results of physical and neurological impact of simple exercise on Parkinson’s patients.

Muhammed Ali, a Parkinson’s patient for 20+ years, helped unveil the new Parkinson’s center at the Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Looking Young May Also Mean Longer Life

Those baby-faced people now have another reason to be smug: a new Danish study says looking young apparently means a longer life.  Research published online Monday in the British medical journal BMJ suggests that people who look younger than their years also live longer.

Spice Compounds May Stem Tumor Growth

Compounds derived from two spices -- pepper and turmeric -- could help prevent breast cancer by limiting the growth of stem cells that promote tumor growth, a new study shows.  When curcumin (from turmeric) and piperine (from black peppers) were applied to breast cells in the laboratory, the number of stem cells decreased, but there was no change in normal cells, say researchers at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center.
